APC Image: AK 0918: Top: Marble relief of Eros, from Sanctuary of Eros and Aphrodite. The marble shows signs of burning, especially on the back of the slab. It shows a nude boy in profile to the right. Very low relief, details are carefully rendered, workmanship is comparatively good. Some red color still remains on the figure, and the background showed clear traces of blue which now faded. The slightly stooping attitude of the figure can best be explained on the assumption that a winged Eros was represented. The date of the relief is hard to establish but the type of relief and the rendering of the muscles are strongly suggestive of Hellenistic work. Bottom: Marble Phallos from East Sanctuary. Made of island marble, probably used in connection with some cult in the vicinity. It was never attached to a statue or herm.
