APC Image: AK 0979: Five animal figurines.The clay is of normal yellow hue, tinged with red, common to Athenian-made figurines, and this is covered in nearly every case by a fine buff-colored slip of clay on which the decoration in lustrous red and brown paint is applied. Animals represented are probably oxen. Primitive type, horns and legs represented by pointed, and the muzzle by flat, projections. The decoration is confined to stripes, one about the neck, and the others following the lines of the body and extremities. Top row left: very fine head with modelled eyes, and muzzle with nostrils and mouth. Right: the undecorated right side has apparently broken away from something, probably another similar animal; probably part of a chariot group. LH III - Mycenaean period. Bottom row right: head that is hard to identify; perhaps it represents a bird.
